Alaïa was born in Tunis, Tunisia on February 26th in 1935.
His glamorous twin sister, Hafida, inspired his love for couture and a French friend fed Alaïa's instinctive creativity with copies of Vogue.
He then lied about his age to get into the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts, where he gained valuable insights into the human form and sculpture.
After his graduation, he privately dressed members of the world's jet set.
Devotees included both fashion-inclined celebrities and fashionistas: Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Raquel Welch, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Brigitte Nielsen, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Tatiana Sorokko, Shakira, Franca Sozzani, Isabelle Aubin, Carine Roitfeld, and Carla Sozzani.
The outside of the vintage Alaïa tote has a green leather exterior with silver-tone studded rivets, green leather handles and a large open top.
The roomy interior has a brown leather lining with a removable wallet, an attached small mirror and one additional open pocket inside.
On November 18th, 2017, it was announced Alaïa died in Paris. He was 82 years old.
