Heidemarie Jiline "Jil" Sander was born in Wesselburen, Germany on November 27th, 1943.
She is a minimalist fashion designer and the founder of the Jil Sander fashion house.
Sander studied at Krefeld School of Textiles (Class 1963) and was a foreign exchange student at the University of California, Los Angeles (1963–64).
After her stint in UCLA, she moved on to New York as a magazine fashion writer.
Sander founded her own fashion house in Germany in 1968 with her mother's sewing machine.
It subsequently flourished through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and achieved an international following.
Today, Jil Sander is a renowned fashion consultant.
